Subject: Wives Join Class of '49 Christmas Luncheon
Two photos with cutlines accompany Filed January 13, 2001
Ever since their 50th reunion the Class of '49 has been enjoying quarterly luncheons at clubs and restaurants in the greater Wilmington area. They have been joined by their teachers, current headmaster, their "Honorary Headmaster" and the recipient of the annual Class of '49 Scholarship Fund. But for their 2000 Christmas luncheon at the Christiana Hilton, they had the largest group of guests ever -- their wives!
It seems as though the wives had been hearing about all the fun the guys were having at these luncheons four times a year and wanted to check it our for themselves. Dick Berl offered the idea at the May luncheon held at the Blue and Gold Club of the University of Delaware and the idea was unanimously approved for the December meeting.
Ten couples came including Lou and Nancy Bachofer, Dick and Joan Berl, Frank and Ann Marie Carlino, Andy and Kitty Hutson, Dick and Joan Joyce, Tom and Jean McFarlin (who drove from Massachusetts that morning,) Andy and Linda Mitchell, Bernie and Pat Mosbach, Len and Martina Quill and Phil and Marie Toman. Fathers Timothy Mullen and Joseph McLaughlin rounded out the group.
The Class of '49 arranged to have Mrs. Claus, in full costume, come to the suite to present each lovely lady with a beautiful red Christmas rose. Fr. Mullen presented all the husbands with an green Archmere mug to round out the Christmas giving at the event.
Everyone agreed the event will become an annual part of the class luncheons.
Mrs. Claus, a. k. a. Jean Toman, presents a red Christmas rose to Kitty Hutson, seated next of class member and husband Andy, as part of the Class of '49 Christmas 200 luncheon program.
