Subject: Headmaster explains renovation efforts of Justin E. Diny Science Center
One photo with cutline accompaniesWith the renovation of the Justin E. Diny Science Center on the horizon and with the realization that a strong alumni association is a vital part of the project's completion,
Archmere Headmaster Rev. Timothy F. Mullen, O. Praem., began his efforts with a very active alumni group, the Class of 1949.
Father Mullen was the speaker at March 15, 2001 quarterly luncheon program held in a private dining room at the Columbus Inn in Wilmington. Father explained the many changes which have transpired in the teaching of science since the building was constructed about 30 years ago. He told the alumni how these changes necessitate a different type of science facility so that Achmere may continue offering a top-flight education to the students of today.
The headmaster showed detail drawings of how the existing space would be better utilized, thus saving a great deal of money. "The present building is very well constructed," he said, "we simply need to bring it into the next millennium by re- configuring it and better using some of the space we already have."
With Archmere Headmaster Rev. Timothy F. Mullen, O. Praem., '65 showing the plans for the renovations of the Justin E. Diny Science Center, the members of Archmere's Class of 1949 examine the plans and ask questions at their most recent quarterly luncheon program.
Throughout the first part of the program the members of the Class of '49 sat listening. As soon as the renderings and blue prints appeared, everyone was on his feet to get up to have a better look at them and ask Father questions about them.
Fr. Mullen listed the total cost at about $2,000,000. He then asked, "Would you guys like to buy a lab?" While no one pulled out a check book, interest had been aroused and the members of this part of the alumni will be signing on as will others in the alumni organization to keep Archmere in front on the educational scene. After all, that's one of the key functions of the Archmere Alumni Association.
Attending this luncheon meeting were Lou Bachofer, Dick Berl, Frank Carlino, Al Haywood, Jim Helay, Andy Hutson, Dick Joyce, Andy Mitchell, Bernie Mosbach, Phil Toman and the Class of '49 Honorary Headmaster Rev. Joseph McLaughlin, O.Praem.
At their next luncheon Father Mullen will bring this year's recipient of the Class of 1949 Scholarship, Alex Abraham, to meet and talk with the class.END
