Fr. Robert Vande Hey, O. Praem - a Norbertine in De Pere, WI - Browsing the Alumni site, I am glad to see up-to-date and planned events, e.g., Santa at Archmere and the Auction and Carnival 2001. I also saw the news about the Memorial Mass and the list of deceased staff and alums, many of whom I knew, e.g., John O'Meara, Frs. Sliben (a classmate), Diny, McLaughlin, etc. Incidentally, for several months three years ago, I was a chaplain for the Benedictine Sisters at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. While there one of the Sisters, Sr. Agnes Fleck, befriended me because of my and her association with the Norbertines. She is the daughter of John (I think I remember correctly that is his first name) Fleck, the first secretary of Fr. Michael McKeough who officiated at the marriage of her parents and baptized her. From an early yearbook she showed me a picture of her as a little child carrying a football on the campus.See photos In those early yearbooks her father is frequently pictured, sometimes as a musician and in other roles other times. Sr. Agnes also remembered Frs. Sromovsky, McLaughlin and many others, including Fr. George Jackson Feldman. For some of you who remember him, Fr. Feldman is still among the living and at the Abbey in our Home Care Center. Although somewhat immobile (not able to get around without a wheelchair), he is mentally spry and may appreciate e-mail messages form those who remember him. Since I am sending him a copy of this e-mail, you will have his address to give to other alums. Fr. Feldman's email address is GJFeldman@mymailstation.com and postal address is Fr. Feldman, St. Norbert Abbey 1016 N. Broadway De Pere, WI 54115. See photos

From Fr. Tom Hagendorf and Fr. Sal Cuccia:

From Fr. Tom Hagendorf It sure has been a long time since we were in contact and a lot of water has gone over the dam. Just to bring you up to date at least on my comings and goings - I left Archmere after I celebrated my 25th anniversary as a Norbertine priest and took a sabbatical year at Berkeley in California. Then I served as an associate pastor at Our Lady of Angels Parish in Burlingame/Hillsboro California, very close to the San Francisco airport where I served for 2 years. I was there for the famous October, 1989 earthquake - a rather shaking experience - pun intended. In June of 1991 I was appointed pastor of our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Middle River, Md - that is off of 95 at White Marsh, 13 miles north of Baltimore. Fr Sal Cuccia and Fr Bob Sliben were my associate pastors Bob stayed with us three years and then moved on but Fr Sal and I were there for 9 years. Fr Sal and I moved to Wisconsin on May 1, 2000 - we rented a big truck, packed up our belongings and I drove the truck and he was the navigator. The only bad experience is that at the first stop for gas I wrapped the rear tires of the truck around those round pillars protecting the gas pumps - a professional truck driver got us out of this predicament. We are both happy and settled in at our Abbey. I am working this year as an associate pastor in two parishes in Green Bay - Annunciation and St Jude. There is a severe shortage of priests out here and these two parishes have been "linked" - on May 31st my term ends and the pastor will be the only priest for the two parishes. I hope to get a parish of my own at that time - hopefully with Fr Sal as associate. Fr Sal is spending this year as associate pastor and campus minister on our College campus - we own and operate "St Norbert College" in DePere, Wi. The college has a parish attached to it called "St Joseph's" but it is also part of the college itself. So Fr Sal finds himself back in the educational field. So that brings you up to date on what we have been up to. We both have fond memories of Archmere and all the fine friends, students and parents that we had come to know and love in the many years that we spent in ministry there. We both keep in touch with Fr Mullen and Fr McLaughlin and offer them our continued support. We both keep Archmere, its Students, teachers and alumni in our prayers. In reading the Archmerean I always enjoy learning what former students have done with their lives and of course as a priest it makes me happy to have played maybe a small part in their success. Take care and give my regards to any of the alumni who may have know me. It goes without saying that if you ever find yourself in this part of the country remember we have fine accomodations for our lay friends here at the Abbey and I believe there is a professional football team in Green Bay and we may be able to get tickets. (just kidding about the team - you cannot live here and not be a Packer fan). Take care and God Bless. Fr Tom H.

You found out from Fr. Tom what I am doing now and my time with him in Baltimore. Let me fill you in on the rest of the story. I left Archmere in 1986 to a job in our house in Rome. I was in charge of the liturgy and the kitchen. Given certain circumstances that only lasted until January. In February Fr. Sliben came to Europe and he and I went on a sabbatical to Louvain in Belgium until May. We spent the time updating our theology and traveling to various parts of Europe. We also visited a number of houses of the Order. I left Europe in June of 1987 and was assigned as Director of Liturgy and Director of Development at the Abbey in Paoli. In 1989 I was put in charge of the seminarians. This took me to Washington, DC. While there I took courses at Washington Theological Union and Catholic University. I was also chaplain at Georgetown Visistation Prep for girls for one year. In 1991 I went to Baltimore. The rest you know. The work at the college is interesting. The most contact I have had with the students is a weekend retreat a couple of weeks ago. They don't break down the door to see us. The parish aspect is not a demanding as a typical parish. I will never forget Archmere School trip to Italy in 1977. I remember being told that I threw my coin in the Trevi fountain the wrong way and would never return to Rome. I went back in 1979, 1984, 1986, 1987, 1990 and 2000. I wonder how many others went back??? One highlight of this 2000 trip was a private audience (about 30 of us) with the Pope. There were two priest friends on the trip. The three of us and my sister got invited because one of the priests was celebrating 50 years of ordination. It was arranged through the bishop of the other one (they are brothers). We went up individually, knelt, kissed his ring, got a blessing and rosary. We also had three pictures each taken. We were able to buy these. Fr. Sal Cuccia

Mary Brighid Kelly, daughter of John Kelly '46 (1977 Alumnus of the Year Recipient, deceased) and sister in law to Peter Mariani '79, married Edward Delawski on 17th June 2000 at the Goodstay Gardens in Wilmington Delaware. James Copeland '50 writes - Tom Mallon doing excellent job! Notre Dame had Knute Rockne, we had Justin E. Diny. Keep Father Feldman (St. Norbert Abby-DePere Wisc.) in your prayers.

Jim Cunnie '51 - writes - I wonder if there is some kind of class secretary or den mother or whatever keeping track of individual classes. I'm from the class of '51. Is there an email list for our class? Here is some information about me. How can I hear from other alumni? I am retired from AT&T (and also retired from IBM). Alice and I live mostly here in Sarasota with occasional stays in an apartment in Manhattan. We had long stays in Vienna and Paris while I was working and the family accompanied me on some of my business trips - I would guess to at least twenty countries. We have three kids, two boys and a girl. Brendan went to Brown and was a scholar athlete while Brian went to Penn as a National Merit Scholar. Maureen was a University Scholar at NYU and also studied at the Sorbonne. As scholars all three take after their mother more than their father. Brian is a computer consultant in San Francisco for various Internet startups. Brendan works for an Internet startup called DoubleClick at their international headquarters in Dublin. Maureen works in the kitchen of a vegetarian restaurant in San Francisco called Greene's. All three are doing what they want to do and do it well. Alice volunteers at the local church. I am the executive vice president of the Sarasota PC User Group and president of DIFA, a local group of artists (DIFA stands for Digital Fine Artists). I also chair the IT Committee of the Sarasota Yacht Club and serve on the board (and I am the immediate past president) of the board of directors for our condominium. I am amazed at the honor and glory you can pick up if you work for nothing and can deal with the stuff that comes with it. There are also some other arts organizations where I make modest contributions or at least don't cause too much trouble. Please let me know whether you have set up some mechanism for the members of the various classes can hear from one another. Thanks for your help. Best regards, Jim Cunnie
