Robert J. Gold Jr. '87 - Robert J. Gold was a student at Archmere for nearly four years in the mid-sixties. (Robert J. Gold - Attended as member of the class of 1965.) While pursuing his diploma at Archmere, he was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Robert was in and out of the hospital during his time as a student. Due to the rigors of what an education at Archmere demands, the difficult decision was made for him to leave school in his senior year because of his illness; and he had to later finish up his education taking classes in Philadelphia. He passed away in 1999 due to complications from the diabetes. Robert was always disappointed that he wasn't able to complete his education at Archmere, the school he loved and held in his heart as his true alma mater. Possibly as a symbol of his own desire to complete his Archmere education, he transferred his youngest son from Kennett High to Archmere in 1985 and Robert Jr. completed his education at Archmere (for both of them so to speak) in 1987. Robert Sr. was in attendance that June day and we can only imagine how gratifying it was for him.
