The Archmere Alumni Association held the Fifth Annual Sports Banquet Sports & Hall of Fame Ceremonies on Friday October 18, 2002. This year, for the first time in the history of the event, the location of the banquet was the Patio. Approximately 100 alumni, coaches, and Norbertines, came to help celebrate the induction of Vincent J. Filliben Jr. ’78, Clement Udovich ’81, Michael Udovich '83. The inductees joined the 36 other alumni and coaches in the Hall of Fame. After opening remarks by Peter Mariani ’79, Vice President of the Alumni Association, Rev. Timothy Mullen O. Praem. ’65 said a prayer. Michael Hare ’79 then had the floor and made a few comments about being back in the Patio, soccer players and the fountain. Mike was the official Master of Ceremonies but that did not stop Paul Pomeroy (member of the Sports Hall of Fame and former faculty member and coach) from coming up and saying more than a few words about the inductees, their teams and that era in Archmere Sports. All of the inductees thanked their families for making the “Archmere Experience” possible for them. They also shared their found memories of their time at Archmere. Mike Hare ’79 asked Vincent J. Filliben, Sr. ’47 (member of the Hall of Fame, former math teacher, coach and athletic director) to present the Hall of Fame Plaque to his son “V.J.”. Longest trips were by: George Flamman '63 came from Virginia Beach, VA. For 5 years George has made the 5 hour trip to attend the banquet. Since the beginning he and all of the loyal alumni from the early 1960s have been very supportive of this event. Brian Dolliver ’52 came from Alexandra, VA and attended not only the Sports banquet but the Alumni Get Together the night before and his 50th reunion the night after. Both Rev. Joseph McLaughlin O. Praem, Headmaster Emeritus and current faculty member, and Rev. John Grimm ’83, a teammate and classmate of inductee Michael Udovich ‘83, said the Benediction.
